 2.    History

• The first project undertaken by Girdwood, Inc. was restoration of The Roundhouse at Alyeska as a historic structure, with the purpose of creating a museum in the Roundhouse, dedicated to skiing, skiers, history and natural features of Girdwood valley, and especially to the winter environment that shapes the lives of Girdwood residents and visitors.

 3.    About

• Girdwood, Inc was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2004 to answer a need to promote and support educational and charitable purposes in the Girdwood area.  Girdwood, Inc. undertakes its own projects as well as providing services and support for other community efforts.

 4.    501(c)(3) status

• Girdwood, Inc. received approval of 501(c)(3) nonprofit status from the Internal Revenue Service in 2004.

 5.    Mission Statement

• Girdwood, Inc. was organized exclusively for educational and charitable purposes to facilitate the public service needs of the Girdwood Valley, and to pursue other educational and charitable purposes that will foster the economic health and vitality of the region and its inhabitants.

  6.    Projects

• Girdwood, Inc. has undertaken, sponsored or provided assistance for a variety of projects for the benefit of our community.  Some of the projects for which Girdwood, Inc. has provided assistance for or undertaken and the year of their commencement are listed below.  As many of these projects for the improvement of our community are ongoing, Girdwood, Inc. will provide continuing support for them.

 6a.    2004

• Infrastructure restoration of The Roundhouse at Alyeska including groundwork, foundation and preparation for renovation of interior and exterior.
• Support for Girdwood Library and Community Center Building Project and collection of public contributions made to support the project.  Assisted in applying for grants to fund the building project.
• Support for the beginning phases of the Turnagain Arm Health Center medical clinic and collection of public contributions to support the project.  Assisted in formation of a nonprofit corporation to undertake this effort.

 6b.    2005

• Continued infrastructure restoration of The Roundhouse at Alyeska.
• Continued support of the Girdwood Library and Community Center Building Project and collection of public contributions made to support the project.  Further assistance in grant applications.
• Further support for Turnagain Arm Health Center.  During 2005 this project became independent.
• Support for Diane Bahnson Memorial Garden in Girdwood Town Square Park, including collection of public contributions made to support the project.
• Support for design and construction of Girdwood Playground.  Design in 2005.  Collection of contributions made to support the project.
• Support Girdwood Trails Committee, volunteer group dedicated to building, maintaining and advocating for Girdwood Trails, including collection of public contributions made to support trails projects.
• Support and facilitate construction of Jeff Nissman Memorial Pavilion in Forest Fair Park.

• Continued support of the Girdwood Library and Community Center Building Project.  Construction commenced in 2007 and expected to be completed in 2008.  Collection of public contributions made to support the project.
• Continued support for Diane Bahnson Memorial Garden to be installed in Girdwood Town Square Park in 2008.
• Continued support for Girdwood Playground ongoing funding for maintenance and improvements.
• Continued support of Girdwood Trails Committee including collection of public contributions made to support trails projects.

• Operate The Roundhouse at Alyeska Museum & Interpretive Center. Completed infrastructure restoration of The Roundhouse at Alyeska and initial fabrication and installation of exhibits and artifacts.  Collection of contributions made to support the Roundhouse Museum. 
• Continued support for Girdwood Playground ongoing funding for maintenance and improvements.
• Sponsor renovation of Girdwood Skateboard Park including collection of public contributions made to support the project. 
• Sponsor Girdwood Fungus Fair - expected to be an ongoing event in Girdwood.
• Continued support of the Girdwood Library and Community Center Building Project.  Construction completed in 2008 and facility opened to the public.  Collection of public contributions made to support the project.
• Continued support for Diane Bahnson Memorial Garden to be installed in Girdwood Town Square Park.
• Continued support of Girdwood Trails Committee including collection of public contributions made to support trails projects.
• Continued support of Jeff Nissman Memorial Pavilion in Forest Fair Park.
